I get it, finally
This week pretty much concludes our year end audit (yesterday was the meeting with the audit committee and the day before was the meeting with the controller and CFO). I think I finally get Equity; reading all those FAS123R and FAS128 pronouncements actually makes sense to me. It's funny because these rules actually creates jobs. The person who basically runs the Equity section for the entire company spent the whole day answering our questions and updating her work because we found some deficiencies in here calculations, but were immaterial. For example, ESPP that has the policy to purchase on the lower of the first day or last day of the offering period should not calculate fair value based on the lower (it should be on the first day of the ESPP period). Even though I get the work, the team still sucks; lack of skilled managers makes the jobs a POS.

Martin Luther King Jr Day
Wow, what a relief today! Driving on the 101 was like cutting butter with a warm knife... smooth sailing to work. In fact, I left work at 8:10 am and got to the office at 8:20 am so I called up my sister and we talked until 8:30.
It sucks to work on a "holday" but it wasn't too bad today. Things were pretty chill and I got off at 8 pm (could've left at 7 pm) but had to stay back and talk to the senior on the "estimated time to completion" bull crap. I see no point in journaling our time to such a granular level by workstep. How the hell am I supposed to keep track of every single hour of my work and also keep efficiency high? If I had to keep track of every single workpaper in a given day, I would've spent 10% of each hour just keeping tabs. Very excited about Saturday when my first tennis class starts!!

A post not about work
That's refreshing, didn't even touch my laptop today. Signed up for tennis classes at Sunnyvale, drove to SF and had a BLAST! I loved driving up and down the hills; but it was very challenging because the steep hills made my car drift a little back so I had to keep my foot lightly on the gas pedal. When I got to a stop sign on a hill, I put a little too much pressure on the gas pedal and my front tires squealed. At around sun set I drove all the way to the West end and watched the sun set over the Pacific Ocean -- it was the most beautiful scene ever.
The best 2 hours of driving ever... man, I love this place.

A short day
Got to the client's office an hour later than the rest of my team who were there at 9 am. Why? Because I was up at 1 am the night before working on preparing my workpapers for today's partner presentation. Actually, my senior and manager are presenting to the partner; not me.
Sat around and looked busy. I just dabbled a little bit and cleaned up my references. Didn't really feel like working on a Saturday especially when the weather was so nice and warm today. At least we got lunch, I guess.
Turns out there were a few comments made by the partners, but my senior was kind of secretive about it and didn't share it with me except there was a minor immaterial oversight by the client (and in effect, his detailed review). He said he was shaking when the partners found out and asked him about it... is that the kind of culture we're here to support? A subordinate is *fearful* of receiving partner comments?
Got off work at 6 pm, so I basically spent 8 hrs today. Later drove around the Valley and landed at a Popeyes and ordered a 10 pc + mashed potato combo. Should be enough to carry me over until Wednesday I think. I'm heading off to Martin Luther King Library to return my books and get a couple hours of BEC studying in. Haven't touched the book since Thursday.
